Just Us Barkers Our Little Corner of the Web

Once there was a man who filmed his vacation.
He went flying down the river in his boat
with his video camera to his eye, making
a moving picture of the moving river
upon which his sleek boat moved swiftly
toward the end of his vacation. He showed
his vacation to his camera, which pictured it,
preserving it forever: the river, the trees,
the sky, the light, the bow of his rushing boat
behind which he stood with his camera
preserving his vacation even as he was having it
so that after he had had it he would still
have it. It would be there. With a flick
of a switch, there it would be. But he
would not be in it. He would never be in it

Chania – How I Miss Thee

Saw this video posted on Facebook the other day and just had to share it. This was where we lived for 2 1/2 years and I find myself dreaming of those days. Chania is definitely one of those places that will always have a hold on me, beckoning me to return. Oh Chania – how I miss thee! Maybe, if I’m lucky, I’ll find myself back there again one day. In the meantime, I thank God for the memories shared with friends – of the people, of the food, and of those oh so beautiful waters.

I have to keep believing that somewhere out there is a blue sky behind the clouds that seem like they're never going away! ~ Matt

Between Annie and I

Today, we had to make a quick stop back at the house to grab some bottles to take back to the store. Annie thought we were home for good, but then quickly realized we were leaving again. This is the conversation that followed:

  • Me: All right Annie, we’ll be right back.
  • Annie: Okay daddy, sounds good! Let’s go.
  • Me: No Annie, you’re staying here, we’ll be right back.
  • Annie: Okay daddy, sounds good! Let’s go.
  • Me: Annie, sorry – you’re staying here. We’ll be right back.
  • Annie: Okay daddy, sounds good! Let’s go.
  • Me:

Eventually I realized that I wasn’t quite getting through, so reluctantly shut the door and headed out to the store. When I got back home, who was excitedly waiting for me at the door again? You’ve got to love dogs!

Karlsruhe Zoo

I took last week off to spend with Ginger and the boys. It had been quite a while since I had taken time off and it was very much needed. We didn’t really go anywhere, instead just hung around our neck of the woods and relaxed and spent time together. I was very glad that I didn’t have to plan any major trips – which can sometimes be a logistical nightmare with 2 boys, a dog and a cat! On one of the days, we hopped the train down to Karlsruhe, where right across the street from the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) lies a very beautiful garden area and zoo. It was a gorgeous day – and I’m pretty sure all the animals were happy to see me (well… us!). Enjoy the pics!
